As a veteran of the United States Army and 25-year police veteran, my initial exposure to canna-based products revolved around enforcing marijuana laws of Texas, assisting in "buy busts," and arresting offenders.

In 2001, while on the job, I was involved in a high-speed pursuit that resulted in a suspect ramming my squad car head-on. The damage I sustained not only landed me in the hospital but left me with permanent back and neck pain. After years of treatment, high-powered medications, invasive surgeries, and, finally, a referral to a pain management specialist, I realized that there was very little available to ease my pain reliably.

When my wife and I met nearly two decades ago, I had never known anyone first-hand who suffered from chronic anxiety. Meg's chronic anxiety, described to her by her doctor as a "chemical imbalance," was a condition she has spent most of her life trying to get under control. She tried everything from anti-depressants, anti-anxiety meds, hormone replacement therapy, sleep-disorder meds, and vitamins but found little relief. After the birth of our fifth child, I was determined to help her find an answer.
